So you would not believe actually how difficult it is to properly listen to somebody. There are so many distractions that generally we are never aware of. What I would like you to do now is get your pen and paper, and have a think about what the distractions are while you are listening to this video. Is it light? Sound? Are you thinking about something? Is something annoying going on somewhere else? Pause this video and make a list for me.
I am going to show you a roleplay now of a couple of people talking and the distractions that occurred when somebody was listening to somebody else. See how many of the same distractions you had.
Oh, it is a real shame you can not come to the Healthwatch Essex Christmas party this year. We have had some really good parties in the past, but this one I think you are gonna really miss out here. We've got... We are not in the photo booth this year, but we are gonna do Tom's famous quiz, so he is busy preparing it now. We have actually got loads of different games this year, really big games. So, we got people who have to ride reindeers, and do a giant operation game, and then we have got an amazing DJ who is going to do something really funny. I'll have to let you know what happens about that. We have got about a hundred people coming, which is the biggest yet so it is going to be really fun.
So, how many of the things on your list did you see in the roleplay? It is actually really difficult to properly listen to somebody. Most of the time, we are not really listening at all.
